/w/ // / sy Combustion Engineering plans to use gamma spectroscopy in' the lh OO production process at the revitalized Hematite facility,i A radioactive source is required to calibrate the gamma spectrometer prior to placing the spectrometer in operation. Hence, we request a license amendment to possess radioactive calibration sources at our Hematite facility. The possession of such sources will have no impact on the _ facility radiological contingency plan, and our radiation safety program is adequate to accommodate the possession of these additional sources. Enclosure I lists the two license application pages that need to be modified in order to accomplish the stated purpose. Enclosure II provides the replacement pages. l '. 7 Authorized Activities L Receive, possess, use, and transfer Special Nuclear Material under L Part 70 of the Regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in - order to manufacture nuclear reactor fuel utilizing low-enriched uraniua (up to 5.0 weight percent in the isotope U-235). Receive, possess, use, and transfer Source Material under Part 40 of the Regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Source-materials are used for the same purposes as SNM, and are generally used for the start-up testing of a new process. Sealed cobalt-60 sources and' solid sources are used for instrument calibration and -testing.
