Reference (a) issued the safety evaluation documenting the acceptability of Cycle 3 operations of Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant No. 2 (CCNPP2).
This amendment authorized operation with sleeved CEA guide tubes, but noted the need for further evaluation, including an inspection at the end of Cycle 3.
Recent inspections of Unit 1 CEA guide tubes has shown no indication of sleeve wear after two cycles (Reference (b)).
Consec.uently, no CEA guide tubes are planned to be inspected in this outage. The CEA inspections are detailed in Enclosure (1).

Recommended Inspection Procram for Calvert Cliffs 2, EOC3 A.
CEA surveillance Program o Eddy Current Examination of three CEAs to characterize wear.
These results may then be compared with similar data obtained following Cycle 2 to evaluate the effects of an additional operating cycle. The 3 CEAs selected for this exam are:
CEA ID CEA Bank In Cycle 3 Assembly Al C
E029 D4 C
E034 C0 A
E103 o Visual inspection (by TV) of the lower 24 inches of CEA A1.
This CEA after Cycle 2 exhibited ti,e largest wear signals of any CEA tested to date.
Since the three CEA's involved in the exani1ation program described above will be returned to the core for Cyc'a 4 operation, the recom-mended inspections will have to be perfunned during fuel shuffling.

PROTOTYPE CEA Examination The proposed inspections for this CEA are as follows:
o Eddy currant testing for evidence of wear.
o Visual examination by TV with a video tape recording o Profilometry of each finger.
