Dear Ms. Wait:
This letter.is in response to your recent letter to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission regarding Vermont Yankee.
The concerns expressed in your letter were recently considered in a decision issued on December 24, 1980 pursuant to 10 CFR 2.206 of the Co:imission's regulations.
10 CFR 2.206 provides an opportunity for persons to request the Commission to take action. A copy of the decision (00 80-36, December 24, 1980) is enclosed for your information.
As provided in 10 CFR 2.206, this decision is before the Commission to determine whether further review is appropriate.
With respect to your comment on the exposure of workers to high radiation, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) regulations specify dose standards for individuals.
Vermont Yankee, as well as all nuclear power plant licensees, is required to document radiation exposures received by individuals and submit an annual summary report to the NRC.
Exposures received by individuals in excess of those specified in NRC regulations are subject to special reporting requirements. To reduce exposure to individuals in radiation areas where work is performed, licensees take such measures as providing additional shielding and limiting worker access to and time in the area. Our inspection of Vermont Yankee's control over work in radiation areas shows that their controls adequately comply with NRC requirements.
