N near Mr. Keppler:

The final report on the Micro-Switch 01C Type switches problem carmot be subtitted tc you by July 7, 1981, as scheduled. This additional interim report is to provide you with the current status of the evaluation of this problem.

The item was originally reported to Mr. R. Knop of the NRC-Region III by Detroit Edison's Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assur-ance, on December 3, 1980. At that time, a number of defective Micro-Switches, 01C Type, were noted on GE supplied panels in the Fermi 2 cont-rol roan equignent.

Six failures had been noted during the earlier part of testing the switches.

The reasons for these failures were crushed internal parts in the switches, inproperly assembled switches and other damaged parts. It was apparent that these switches were installed in this conditica. These defec+ive switches have been replaced, and the testJng is continuing.

Another report on this item, eitl er interim or final, is scheduled to ue sent to you on or before November 3,1981. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance.

Very truly yours,
