REFERENCE:
(1) NRC Bulletin No. 89-02, dated July 19, 1989 Gentlemen: -In accordance with the requirements of Reference (1), Public Service ' Company of Colorado'(PSC) has reviewed the issues and concerns of the Bul.letin and presents the following response. NRC Requested Action: .The. Bulletin requested that the licensee disassemble and inspect-all safety-related Anchor Darling model S350W swing check valves supplied with internal retaining block studs. of ASTM specification A193 Grade B6 Type-410 SS. i PSC Response: PSC has reviewed the plant data base and design documents and has Econcluded that; there are' no _ Anchor Darling swing check valves . installed at Fort St. Vrain (FSV). ~ T JNRC Requested Action: 1 The Bulletin' further requested that the licensee review the . design of other safety-related check valves to determine if (' similar designs and material selection to the Anchor Darling: model S350W-are used. A_ relatively~ small:. number of' ' systems :at FSV use stainless steel valves in as steam or water process. A review of design documentation on a' sample of--stainless steel check valves in' steam or water systems revealed:no use of ASTM A193 Grade _B6 Type 410 SS bolting-material. The. problem.'_ valves noted _in>the Bulletin ~ l were in borated water-1 J Jsystems. There are no borated water systems-at FSV. Based on these facts, PSC considers the BulletinLto be not applicable. to FSV:and does not plan.any additional inspections of safety-related -i swing check valves in response to this Bulletin.
