License: #49-16977-02 This is to inform you that the subject organisation has been issued a license by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the possession and use of cesium-137 and americiumr-241 sealed sources for use in surface moisture-density gauges. This notification is in accordance with NRC policy of indorming public officials when organizations located in their jurisdiction are first licensed. '

Included among the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's responsibilities are the regulation of the use of radioactive materials for industrial applications, medical diagnosis and treatment, applied research and development, academic research, and in con - r products. A license is intended to provide reasonable assurance that the public health and safety is adequately protected by prescribing specific conditions and requirements for the use of authorized radioactive sources.

We will be periodically performing anannounced inspections of this facility to insure safe use of such licensed materials. Inspection reports are routinely made available to the public following proprietary review.
