Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Docket No. 50/395 Operating License No. NPf-12 Special Report (SPR 90-011)
Dear Mr. Ebneter:
This Special Report is being submitted by South Carolina Electric & Gas Company pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specification 3.3.3, Radiation Monitoring instrumentation. On August 29, 1990, the Main Plant Vent High Range Process Monitor, RM-A13, was declared inoperable due to " spiking" of the monitor.
The Licensee has performed extensive troubleshooting on the unit, including the replacment of numerous electronic components, without resolving the spiking pr0ble A supplement report will be submitted when the problem is corrected detailing the deficiency and corrective action taken.
A preplanned alternate method of monitoring has been initiated as required by the Technical Specifications.
