Dear Mr. Denton:

Docket Number 50-483 Callaway Plant, Unit 1 Temporary Operations Shift Manning

Reference:

ULNRC-478 dated August 14, 1981 signed by D.

F.

Schnell ULNRC-767 dated March 16, 1984 signed by D. F. Schnell Meeting Summary Regarding Facility Staffing dated March 1, 1984 signed by J.

Hannon, NRC As indicated in the Callaway SER and in the above references, Union Electric has committed and affirmed'its intent to use a six crew shift manning schedule.

This schedule provides for the normal shift coverage, as well as a training week and a relief week when personnel are available to cover allowed absences.

At present the Operations Department is on a five-crew schedule due to work-load and man-power restraints.

The new schedule eliminates the relief week but maintains the training week.

This temporary situation is anticipated to remain in effect until later this year, possibly October or November.

Union Electric does not anticipate any adverse impact on plant operation or safety during this interim period.

These circumstances are temporary and do not supersede earlier Union Electric commitments.

Very truly yours, Donald F.
