(See attached list of addrcssees)
The Honorable John B. Breaux, Chairman Subcomittee on Nuclear Regulation Comittee on Environment and Public Works United States Senate Washington, D. C.
20S10
Dear Mr. Chairman:
Public Law 97-415, enacted on January 4, 1983, amended Section 139 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 to authorize the Nuclear Regulatory Comission to issue and make immediately effective any amendment to an operating license upon a determination by the Commission that such amendment involves no significant hazards consideration, notwithstanding the pendency before the Comission of a request for a hearing.
In addition, the legislation requires the Commission to periodically (but not less frequently than once every thirty days) publish notice of any amendments issued, or proposed to be issued, under the new authority above.
Enclosed for your information is a copy of the Comission's Biweekly Notice of Applications and Amendments to Operating Licenses involving no significant hazards considerations, which was published in the Federal Register on August 10, 1988.
Sincerely.
