SMALL BORE PIPING AND SUPPORTS SDAR: CP-86-72 (INTERIM REPORT)
Dear Mr. Johnson:
On June 6,1986, we notified you of a reportable item involving the scope of plant modifications resulting from the project's pipe support reverification program (see TXX-4844).
This issue was being tracked under SDAR CP-86-36, Pipe Supports. We are dividing this issue into two parts to segregate small bore piping and supports from large bore piping and supports.
SDAR CP-86-36 will become'"Large Bore Piping and Supports", and SDAR CP-86-72 is "Small Bore Piping and Supports".
The scope of SDAR CP-86-72 includes Unit 1 and 2 small bore (2" and under)
ASME class 2 and 3 piping and supports that are not part of large bore or class 1 stress problems which are covered in SDAR CP-86-36.
Interim reports will include a tabilation by category of piping or support modifications as follows:
1)
Prudent. Acceptance by physical modification versus analysis.
Supports in this category may be technically acceptable; however, more time and expense would be involved than that required to physically modify the support and qualify the modification.
- 2) Recent NRC and Industry recommended practice. Modifications implemented to eliminate snubbers to enhance a plant maintainability, reduce in-service inspection, and minimize worker exposure (operating plant conditions).
- 3) Adjustment. Minor modifications (such as re-torquing or shimning) implemented to meet more rigorous installation criteria contained in the resolution of the external source technical iscues.
- 4) Cumulative effects. Modifications that may be required due to the combined effect of multiple issues.
