SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 SPACE AND MOTOR HEATERS SDAR: CP-86-24 (INTERIM REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On April 10, 1986, we verbally notified your Mr. R. Hall of a deficiency involving the use of unqualified motor operated switch compartment space and motor heaters connected to IE circuits which could result in degraded class IE circuitry. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). On September 5, 1986, we requested and received an extension for submitting this report from your Mr. I. Barnes until September 17, 1986. We previously submitted an interim report logged TXX-4788, dated May 9, 1986.

During the evaluation of this issue, it has become necessary to request additional information from the vendors. Upon receipt, this information will be reviewed and any required analyses will be performed.

Completion of these engineering activities are currently scheduled for October 24, 1986.

We anticipate submitting our next report no later than November 14, 1986.

Very truly yours, 1
