DGCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 CABLE OUTSIDE DIAMETER REQUIREMENT SDAR:

CP-87-99 Gentlemen:

On September 9,1987, we verbally notified your Mr. H. S. Phillips of a potential deficiency involving cable which exceeds the maximum allowable outside diameter prescribed in the cable specification. This condition was discovered as a result of activities initiated under the Corrective Action Program (CAP). This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the previsions of 10CFR50.55(e).

3 Specifically, our evaluation of a nonconformance report has revealed that approximately 100 reels of cable (types W-065, W-165, W-265 and W-765) have exceeded the maximum specified outside diameter.

Further evaluation is required to assess the possie ss.fety significance of these conditions.

Our next report on this issue will be submitted no later than December 18, 1987.

Very truly yours, W. G. Counsil Wjh:tgj c-Mr. R. D. Martin, Region IV Resident Inspectors, CPSES (3) 8710150222 871009 PDR ADOCK 00000445 s
