Dear Mr. Stello:
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has empleted an analysis of the prompt alert and notification system for the Braidwood Nuclear Power Station located in Braidwood, Illinois. This review has been completed pur-suant to FEMA Rule 44 CFR 350; selected evaluative _ criteria and Appendix 3 in NURa3-0654/ FEMA-REP-1, Revision 1; and FEMA-REP-10, the." Guide for the Evaluation of Alert and Notification Systems for Nuclear Power Plants."
The enclosed report, entitled "Braidwood Nuclear Power Station Site-Specific Offsite Radiological Emergency Preparedness Alert and Notification System i
l Quality Assurance Verification" summarizes the engineering design review; incorporates the results of the telephone survey of the public conducted imnudiately following the full activation of the alert and notification system on December 2, 1986; and confirms the adegaacy of the applicable j
evaluative criteria frm NURH3-0654/ FEMA-REP-1, Revision 1, and FEMA-REP-10.
l Based on the engineering design review and the results of the public telephone l
survey, FEMA has determined that the alert and notification system installed around the Braidwood Nuclear Power Station, satisfies the requirements of NUREG-0654/ FEMA-REP-1, Revision 1, and FEMA-REP-10. Therefore, there is now reasonable assurance that the system is adequate to promptly alert and notify the public in the event of a radiological emergency at the site. The review of the off-site plans and preparedness for the Braidwood Nuclear Power Station pursuant to i
FEMA Rule 44 CFR 350 will be cmpleted by FD4A at a later date.
