STOLEN M0ISTURE DENSITY GAUGE R
OnSeptember8,1987,RegionIII(Chicago)becameawarethatamoisturedensitygaupewas stolen from the passenger compartment of a company pickup truck in Hamilton. 0hio, on y September 5, 1987. The gauge contained sealed sources of 10 millicuries of cesium-137 and 40 mil 11 curies of americium-241/bery111um.. The vehicle was locked, but the thiives; broke a window to steal the gauge. The gauge was in its carrying case with the sourcesk locked in the shielded position.

The licensee reported the theft to the local police.
There was local broadcast andd newspaper' coverage of the theft.
On September.6,1987, the Hamilton police received an anonymous tip concerning the location of the gauge.
It was recovered intact with no damage and no abnormal radiation
' levels.
The licensee will submit a written report on the theft.
The State of Ohio will be informed.
Region III was advised of the theft and recovery of the gauge on September 8, 1987, during-an inquiry with the licensee. This information is current as of 10 a.m., September 9,1987.
