UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001

CHAIRMAN June 17, 2022

The Honorable Steve Sisolak Governor of Nevada State Capital Building 101 N. Carson Street Carson City, NV 89701

Dear Governor Sisolak:

On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, I extend my congratulations on the State of Nevada's 50 th anniversary of becoming an Agreement State. On July 1, 1972, Governor Mike O'Callaghan entered into an Agreement with the Atomic Energy Commission to assume regulatory responsibility for certain radioactive materials under Section 274 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended. This action established Nevada as the 23 rd Agreement State.

I commend Nevada's successful efforts throughout the years in regulating the State's safe use of radioactive materials, thereby protecting public health and safety. I encourage your continued support of the important services provided by the Nevada Agreement State Program.

I look forward to our agencies' continued cooperation and shared success as part of the National Materials Program. Please extend my congratulations to the dedicated professionals of the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services for their successful implementation of the Nevada Agreement State Program.

Sincerely,

Christopher T. Hanson
