Request for Information (RFI) is a NRC inspection process for asking questions. During inspections the NRC inspector will make RFI in order to review whatever is necessary to fulfill the inspection objectives.

The first RFI may be in the form of a letter or email list. But RFI can also be any verbal request made on site in the course of the on-site inspection week.
