SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET N0S. 50-445 AND 50-446 SERVICE WATER SYSTEM LEAKAGE SDAR: CP-86-07 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On April 11, 1986 we verbally notified you of a reportable item involving weld failure and coating degradation in the Service Water System (see TXX-4762).

This is a follow-up supplemental report on a reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).

Our inspections of the Train "A" Service Water Piping have been completed revealing no generic failures of the Plasite coatings. Several pitted areas were identified for which repair was warranted. Other areas containing minor defects, not warranting repair, were identified and will be used as baseline data fcr future inspections.

Several design modifications are currently being implemented on Train "A" which are currently scheduled for completion by November 7,1986. Train "A" will be held out of service until these actions are complete. The inspection of Train "B" will not be started until Train "A" is returned to service. This inspection will require two months to complete. Therefore, corrective measures which may be required for Train "B" are scheduled for completion by January 15, 1987.

l We anticipate completing our evaluation of the corrective action and submitting our next report by January 30, 1987.

l Very truly yours, f

W. G. Co sil
