STANDARD REVIEW PLANS FOR RISK-INFORMED

' REGULATION OF POWER REACTORS The Commission has approved publication of the Federal RegisigI Notice and issuance of the

" Final Application-Specific Regulatory Guides (RGs) and Standard Review Plans (SRPs) for 3 Risk-Informed Regulation of Power Reactors" after revision by the staff to reflect Commission guidance and direction asscciated with SECY-97-287 and SECY-98-015. The feedback and corrective action described in Section 5.4 of RG 1.175 should be clarified to contain performance monitoring for systems, structures, and components and feedback to the risk-informed inservice Testing program for appropriate adjustments.

Revisions to the risk-informed inservice testing guidance. document should be considered when j

- ASME approves the proposed code case, " Requirements for Safety Significance Categorization cf Components Using Risk insights for Inservice Testing of LWR Power Plants." The planned changes to the Main'.enance Rule (MR) will necessitate changes to the documents associated with SECY-98-067. The staff shou ld revisit these documents and promptly incorporate changes needed to conform to the revised MR upon issuance of the final rule late this year. The staff should support expeditious revisions to remove the Configuration Risk Management Plan from plant Technical Specifications upon request by the licensees after the MR revision is issued in final form.
