STAFF RE0DIREMENTS - SECY-97-149 - NUCLEAR SAFETY RESEARCH REVIEW COMMITTEE (NSRRC)
The Commission has approved Option 2 - transfer of the research advisory function to the ACRS. The Commiscion believes that the 3 FTE cut in the ACRS FY 98 budget can be partially offset by the 1 FTE transferred with the NSRRC function.
The ACRS should take an active role in reviewing ongoing Research program initiatives, such as those discussed in SECY-97-075 and SECY-97-167. In this role, the ACRS should examine the need, scope, and balance of the reactor safety research program. The ACRS should also consider how well the Office of Research anticipates research needs and how it is positioned for the i
changing environment, and recommend whether the NSRRC function is still needed.

The staff should forward letters to the members of the NSRRC informing the Committee of the Commission's decision.
