Dear Mr. Randolph:

By letters dated October 30,1996, and January 28,1997, Union Electric (UE) submitted its 30-

' day and 120-day responses to GL 96-06. In your response, you identified that 23 pipe lines -

_ penetrating the containment are susceptible to thermally-induced pressurization and were -

evaluated for operability. You committed to perform more specific evaluations of these lines to -

l. demonstrate compliance with the NRC position. You further committed to perform any i necessary modifications consistent with the end of Refuel 9 and Refuel 10.

In order to complete its review of the response to the generic letter,' the NRC needs additional information regarding your evaluation of the piping associated with these penetrations. Please provide summaries of your evaluations of these penetrations and describe the method of )

y analysis, including the assumptions used in the analysis, and the results.'. You should also

! provide fabrication drawings of the piping sections evaluated and should discuss how the l criteria used for the evaluations meet the licensing basis criteria for Callaway.
