The Commission

  • was briefed by the representatives of the General Public Utilities Corporation (licensee) on the status of the cleanup activities at the Three Mile Island, Unit 2 Nuclear Power Plant.

Representing the licensee were:

- William E. Kuhns Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Public Utilities (GPU) and Chairman of the Board of GPU Nuclear (GPUN) Corporation Standley H. Hoch Successor to Mr. Kuhns as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Public Utilities (GPU) and Chairman of the Board of GPU Nuclear (GPUN) Corporation Philip R. Clark President and Chief Executive Officer of GPU Nuclear Edwin E. Kintner Executive Vice President of GPU Nuclear Michael B. Roche Vice President and Director of the TMI-2 Program

, The Commission. requested the licensee to:

a. Make available to the staff the reports generated by the Radiation Hazards Panel to the Safety Advisory Board, TMI-2. j
b. Inform the staff of the resolution of the evaporator 1 qualification issues prior to evaporating the contaminated I water. I i
c. Continue to focus and document the lessons learned from )

both'the accident and the cleanup activities. ]

d. -Continue to provide adequate resources to the cleanup of Unit 2 and good operating performance at the Three Mile Island, Unit 1 plant. i Dr. Robert Martson requested that the report, "Three Mile Island Revisited: 1989, A Report of the Radiation Hazards Panel to the Safety Advisory Board, TMI-2," be made part of the meeting record.

(Accordingly, the Secretary of the Commission attached the above referenced report to the transcript of this meeting.)

There were no requirements placed on the staff at this meeting.
