INSTRUMENT MECHANIC - INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT Tolec:o Edison Company reported to RIII (Chicago) on January 15, 1978, that a Nuclear Instrument and Control Mechanic received .
second degree burns over 25% of his body when water which had accumulated around the outside of the relief valve vent became heated by relieving steam and spilled down on the mechanic. De injury required hospitalization.
At the time the mechanic was observing the testing of the atmos-pheric relief valves on the main steam header. The plant was preparing to startup with steam temperature at 350 degrees F/ '

A check with the employee's management on the morning of January 16, 1978, confirmed the individual was still listed in critical condi-b tion and was in intensive care. 'j The licensee has issued a press release. Based on the icw visibility
