Security Incident On Sunday 2/22/76 at approximately 11:00 am a group calling themselves the " Continental March for Peace" arrived at the entrance to the PG&E private road (Avila Gate) approximately 8 miles from the plant protected area. The group had previously requested a tour and were met at the gate by the normal PG&E tour bus. Since a demonstration of some type was anticipated by PG&E, the San Luis Obispo Sheriff, PG&E security officials -
and a surveillance helicopter were standing by.
Of the 40 " marchers" 10 were admitted for the tour but instead of boarding the bus 2 females began hiking in the general direction of l' the plant (inside perimeter fence). After repeated warnings the two were arrested for trespassing. Two males similarly disregarded PG&E's warnings and were also arrested. Others of the group staged a " sit in" and 4 more were arrested by the sheriff for obstructing justice (8 arrests in all).
Throughout the demonstration one of the leaders of the group and a D' female companion waited quietly. They accepted PG&E's original tour ,/
offer, spent about 3 hours3.472222e-5 days
8.333333e-4 hours
4.960317e-6 weeks
1.1415e-6 months
with PG&E security officers at the plant /
overlook (outside the protected area) and then departed peacefully. .
d.)
PG&E has filed complaints and the 8 arrested are being held on $650.00 -C bail.
