Dear Mr. Price,
By letter dated June 30, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML20182A800), Kairos Power LLC (Kairos) submitted for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff review, Topical Report (TR) Metallic Materials Qualification for the Kairos Power Fluoride Salt-Cooled, High Temperature Reactor. In this letter, Kairos Power requested the NRC staffs review and approval of the material qualification plan for metallic structural materials used in Flibe wetted areas for safety-significant high temperature components of the Kairos Power Fluoride Salt-Cooled, High Temperature Reactor (KP-FHR).
The NRC staff has completed the initial review of this topical report and developed some comments and preliminary questions to improve its understanding of the information presented in the report. The questions are intended to:
Obtain clarification regarding material in the topical report Promptly identify areas where additional information may be needed Facilitate discussions and continue effective communication The NRC staff requests that Kairos propose times to discuss the preliminary questions.
