REQUEST FOR DOCUMENTATION FOR SAFETY SYSTEM DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE CAPABILITY PILOT INSPECTION l

Dear Mr. Kingsley:

Starting on November 1,1999, NRC Region lli will be conducting a Safety System Design and Performance Capability pilot inspection at the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station. This inspection will be performed in accordance with the NRC pilot inspection procedure 71111-21.

. Although this is a pilot inspection, it is similar to previous design engineering inspections, which

i. have been found to be resource intensive. In order to minimize the impact that the inspection L l has on the site and to ensure a productive inspection for both sides, we have enclosed a

' request for documents needed for the inspection. These have been divided into three groups.

The first, which is primarily comprised of lists of information, we would appreciate being mailed or faxed to Region ill as expeditiously as possible, but by no later than September 24,1999.

The inspection team will review the,se lists during the week of September 27, and will specify items from those lists which need to be available for further review, items in the second group

, should be available to the NRC by the week of October 11. This information can be mailed to Region lli or an inspector will make a one-day site trip to obtain the information. These ]

documents will then be reviewed in the Region 111 office during the two weeks prior to the first onsite week. - The final group of documents requested are those items which the team will need access to during the inspection.
