Dear Mr. Reese:
Your letter of December 9,1986, asked whether the Nuclear Regulatory Conunission; (NRC) would consider performing inspections of an irradiated fuel shipping package on behalf of the Australian Department of Transportation. While we may be willing to perform such an inspection, prior to making a final decision, I suggest that a meeting or telephone conversation be conducted between a representative of the Australian Department of Transportation or other appropriate person (s) and members of the NRC staff to discuss details and possible arrangements.
