EPICOR_II HIC' EVALUATION In the letter to Ms. Nancy Kirner dated February 1,1984 (enclosed), NRC recomended approval of the High Integrity Container (HIC) developed by the Department of Energy (DOE) for Three Mile Island (TMI) EPICOR-II liners. In that letter we identified two information areas (biodegradation testing and revisedstructuralanalysiscalculations)neededbyustocompleteour evaluation report. As you recall, we made the approval recomendation because DOE had' sealed up one liner prior to completion of our review. In order that these wastes would not present a hazard due to gas generation during shipping, we recommended approval while the two minor areas above were being addressed.

We would appreciate it if you would request from the State of Washington the .

above information so that we can complete the evaluation report and close out this action.
