Dear Mr. Miller:
We have received your letter of August 6 requesting a license for the export of tritium light sources, including airfield light sources. As we discussed yesterday, the Executive Branch and the NRC would consider a license request similar to your expired Export License XB001183. The license would authorize your company to export all of your light sources containing up to 25 curies of tritium'and also sample airfield light sources to most countries with appropriate quantity limitations. We are enclosing NRC-7 application fonns for you to complete to cover your request for a broad license similar to previously issued export license XB00ll83. We will process this request as expeditiously as possible upon receipt of the completed export license application fonn.
With regard to shipments of larger quantities of tritium light sources for civilian or military airfields, we would require a separate specific license request for these proposed exports as they would warrant additional review.
Also enclosed for your infonnation is a copy of the August 4,1986 Federal Register notice of the revised general license for the export of tritium.
