ISSUANCE OF SFPO DIRECTOR'S INTER lM STAFF GUIDANCE LETTERS Attached for your use and information are the following new, revised, and reissued Spent Fuel Project Office (SFPO) Director's Interim Staff Guidance (ISG) documents:

ISG-1 Damaged Fuel ISG-2 Fuel Retrievability ISG-3 Post Accident Recovery and Compliance with 10 CFR 72.122(l)

ISG-4, R1 Cask Closure Weld Inspections ISG-5, R1 Normal, Off-Normal, and Hypothetical Accident Dose Estimate Calculations for the Whole Body, Thyroid, and Skin

  • ISG-6 Establishing Minimum initial Enrichment for the Bounding Design Basis Fuel Assembly (s)

ISG-7 Potential Generic issue Concerning Cask heat Transfer in a Transportation Accident ISG-8 Limited Burnup Credit in the Criticality Safety Analyses of PWR Spent Fuelin Transport and Storage Casks ISG-9 Storage of Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) Fuel Assembly Integral Components ISG-10 ASME Code Exceptions ISG-11 Storage of Spent Fuel Having Burnups in Excess of 45,000 mwd /MTU ISG-12 Buckling of Irradiated Fuel Under Bottom End Drop Conditions These documents are being provided to you to ensure consistent reviews by the SFPO staff.

The new ISGs 8 -12 and revised ISG-4, R1 and ISG-5, R1 were developed to address issues s for which the SFPO's standard review plans (SRPs) do not currently piovide sufficient guidance. Also, I am reissuing ISG's 1 - 3,6, and 7, to provide a complete set of ISGs for your use.
