The Hororable John B. Breaux Chairman Subconnittee on Nuclear Regulation Cormittee on Environment and Public Works United States Senate Washington, D. C. 20510 Deer Mr. Chairran:
Public Law 97-415, enacted on January 4, 1983, arended Section 189 or the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 to authorize the Nuclear Regulatory Comission to issue and nake im ediately effective any amendment to an operating license upon a determination by the Commisst e that such amendrent involves no significant hazards consideration, notwithstanding the pendency before the Coceission of a request for a hearing.
In addition, the legislation requires the Comission to periodically (but not less frequently than once every thirty days) publish notice of any anendments issued, or proposed to be issued, under the new authnrity above.
Enclosed for your information is a copy of the Concission's Biweekly Notice of Applications and Amendments to Operating Licenses involving no significant barards considerations, which was published in the Federal Register on Septerber 21 1988.
