Subject:

Suspect Bolting at LaSalle County Station

Reference:

ENS Notification, December 10,1996 We submitted a courtesy (voluntary) ENS notification on December 10,1996, regarding suspect bolting at LaSalle Station.

Although we have not yet identified any inoperable equipment, we made j

this call because of the possible widespread impact of finding suspect i

bolting at LaSalle. We have found suspect fasteners, as described in DOE bulletin number 92-4 dated August 1992, in both our warehouse and installed in the plant.

The total scope of the botting issue has not been completely identified, although suspect bolts have been found in the following components:

Diesel Generators Non-Pressure Boundary bolting on various air Operated Valves Conduit Supports in the DC electrical system Switchgear panel bolting Several pressure switch and transmitter mounting bolts We have performed initial testing on approximately 70 bolts and no  !

inoperable equipment has been identified.

We have notified the Resident inspectors of this issue and will keep them informed of our progress as we continue our investigation.
