Thank you for your letter of December ll, 1996, to NRC Chairman Shirley Ann Jackson regarding the Commission meeting on Maine j Yankee, now scheduled for February 4, 1997, and your request that
- David Lochbaum of the Union of Concerned Scientists and Paul j Blanch of Connecticut be permitted to make a presentation to the Comu.lssion at that time. As you may know, the primary purpose of the February 4 meeting is to hear from the NRC staff and the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company on the company's response to
, NRC's Independent Safety Assessment Team (ISAT) findings and to
- describe cpecific corrective actions that Maine Yankee has taken or proposes to take to resolve the issues raised by the ISAT l report.

In response to requests for outside participation, the Commission has expanded the meeting time to include brief presentations by 1
David Lochbaum, Union of Concerned Scientists; Raymond Shadis, Friends of the Coast Opposing Nuclear Pollution; William S.
- Linnell II, Committee for a Safe Energy Future; and Dana F.
Connors, Maine Chamber and Business Alliance.
