Dear Mr. DeLaBarre:
Enclosed for your information is a copy of export license application 1 XB001295, dated February 25, 1997, from Measurex-DMC requesting authority to export 2.4 curies of-Curium-244 incorporated in ceramic enamel and sealed in welded monel capsules as part of a thickness guage to be installed in a ;
commercial tin-plating factory on Hainan Island in the Peoples' Republic of '
China.
A specific license is required because the general license in 10 CFR Part 110.23 is limited to 100 mil 11 curies per device for exports to countries which are not members of the Nuclear Suppliers Group. The application does not require Executive Branch review or assurances from the receiving government.
We are prepared to issue the requested license after the application has been on file in the NRC's public document room for 15 days.
I will forward a copy of the license to you after it is issued.
