SUBJECT:
IPICOR-II The staff has corpleted its review and has approved all but three of the operating cod emrpency procedures associated with the operation of EPICCl-II. The remaining precc.bres vill be completed with irposition of whatever NPC requirerients are necenary for approval by October 13, 1970. The staff has also recently reviewed t% st?tt's of the EPICOR-Il facility and the training of its operators and concludes 11.et LPICCR-II can be safely and reliably operated.
With regard to the solidification of the contatiinated filter and resins generated t.y this operation, an enginecring design for a facility to be used for this process k' not yet been completed. Such a facility would be required to meet applicable Waission regulations regarding the application of the ALARA concept to occupa- .
tinnal exposures to minimize worker exposure through the application of Regulatory Guith 8.8. l',axinum individual worker ex;,osure would be limited to 1.25 Rom per que rte r.
/,lthough no specific facility designs have been developed for the solidification operation at TMI-2, the staff has reviewed three topical reports on systems of this type which show that routine maintenance and operation activities are expected h result in an occupational dose of less than 10 man-rem per year. Solidification cf resins from EPICOn-II, which has not been specifically designet to accommodate solidific" ion, vill libly involve desien fmtures not previously analyzed by the staff.
