SUMMARY

OMTMP 4WL M Cdbd Pney L I had several questions about the Falls City, TX site resulting from my review of the data collection scope of work proposals. The following information was obtained:

1. There are no plans for placing a rock erosion barrier cover over the encapsulation cell at this site.

Instead, a vegetative cover is being planned to protect the pile from surface erosion.

2. Three possible radon barrier sites have been identified for characterization. All sites are within approximately 3 miles from the site. Preliminary testing of radon barrier material for radiological parameters will be performed as described in the TAC's Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) and as done at previous UMTRAP sites. Additional testing of the material will be performed once the RAC approves a borrow source.
3. Testing to estimate the value of the diffusion coefficient for tailings material will be done by the TAC.

The TAC plans on obtaining 6 soil samples and performing 2 tests at 3 different moisture contents on each samples. A total of 36 tests will be performed on tailings material----

sands, slimes, and a mixture of the two. The TAC anticipates the tailings material will be similar among all 7 piles. . . . . . - . - - . . -

SUMMARY

4. Presently, the DOE is considering 2 poss'ible options for stabilizing this site. They are: -e
a. Stabilization-in-Place: Move piles 3,4,5,6 to the area encompassed by piles 1,2,7, and the millsite.
b. Relocate the piles to the Conoco Conquista pile (Title II site). K Characterizing the site will help the DOE determine costs involved with each option before choosing the method of stabilization.
