III. GESSAR-II REVIEW SCHEDULE TO MEET 5/15/84 SER DATE Scheduled Submitted GE submittal of seismic analysis 10/31/83 09/23/83 (without uncertainty analysis)

GE submittal of uncertainty analysis 10/31/83 11/09/83 on internal events GE submittal of fire analysis and 10/31/83 11/04/83 other external events (without u'ncertainty analysis)

GE submittal of uncertainty analysis 10/31/83

  • on external events Revised source term methodology 12/30/83 from ASTP0 Staff defined source term for 01/31/84 **

use by GE BNL final NUREG/CR 04/16/84 SER to DL 05/15/84 ***

Will be submitted by GE by 12/30/83; this delay may impact schedule, however, we will try to meet the 5/15/84 date. This will be predicated on BNL schedule and timely GE responses which meet the requirements.

If definitive ASTP0 " source term" not available, the staff will go forward using the best information available as agreed upon among appropriate staff and consultants.

      • BNL proposed delivery date is 7/15/84, however, we are negotiating with the contractor to try to meet the 4/16/84 date for contractor report and staff SER on 5/15/84.

IV. LIMITATIONS AND POTENTIAL PROBLEMS GE submitted a single seismic hazard curve enveloping three Eastern U.S. sites. The applicability of the curve and the yet to be submitted uncertainty analysis for any group or location of sites will be limited.

The lack of sit.e specific data regarding subsurface geometry and.

soil properties and their impact on fragility would further limit the applicability of the analysis.

The staff's' conclusions regarding the site consequences are. limited to those sites enveloped by the site characteristics used by GE in their PRA analysis.

We will require GE to document their consideration of alternate . design -

improvements including cost / benefit analyses. "We have informally asked GE to discuss this matter with us. .

Incomplete response to major issues such as USI's in PRA is being pursued with GE for resolution. We expect GE to give this issue high priority to assure that there are no delays in our SER input.

Fire PRA has just been received. Since essentially no review has been done we are not in a position to indicate any limitations or potential problems with the fire PRA. -

Sensitivity of component fragility to core melt contribution does not appear to have been included in the initial seismic analysis.

It is expected that GE's uncertainty analysis shall include this.
