Subject:

Docket No. 50-482: Withdrawal of 10 CFR 50.55a Request to Use Alternative Ultrasonic Examination Method in Lieu of Radiography Gentlemen:

The purpose of this submittal is to withdraw the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC) 10 CFR 50.55a Request originally provided by Reference 1 and revised by Reference 2, requesting approval to use alternative ultrasonic (UT) examination method in lieu of the radiography (RT) requirements of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

Section III, NC-5222. WCNOC is electing to withdraw the request based on the. restrictive conditions being imposed by the NRC.

Reference 2 also provided responses to an NRC request for additional information (RAI) that discussed the proposed NRC conditions on Code Case N-659 published in the Federal Register for comment on October 27, 2006 (Vol. 71, No. 208, pages 62947-62949). WCNOC disagreed with certain proposed conditions presented in the Federal Register and RAI. Therefore, WCNOC would like the NRC to consider the responses provided in Reference 2 during the resolution of the rulemaking on the subject of utilizing UT examination methods in lieu of RT.
