As a resident of Westchester who lives just over 10 miles from the site, I am personally concerned for my safety and that of my family, my neighbors, and the entire region. I have watched the news on the decommissioning and clean up of the Indian Point site with growing alarm.

Holtec is the wrong choice for this job. The company has never decommissioned a nuclear plant and has a history of bribery and deceit. It has been reported for safety problems including taking dangerous shortcuts and a poor record of employee protections. While Holtec promises a speedy decommissioning, it is unclear that this can actually be done or even if it is a good idea. The company is taking no financial responsibility in this case and we are likely to be left with an unfinished job and all the money gone.

I urge you not to approve this transfer of control of licenses and conforming amendments and to ensure that the decommissioning and clean up of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant is done in the safest possible way by a company that is both trustworthy and experienced.
