Dear Mr. Denton:

In our September 28, 1984 letter AEP:NRC:0773I we committed to submitting a semi-annual progress report on our Detailed Control Room Design Review (DCRDR) program to keep your staff apprised.

The first table of the attachment presents an overall view and a comparison of our September 1, 1986 status with our March 1, 1986 status.

After our March 31, 1986 progress report, your staff requested additional status information on the D. C. Cook Control Room enhancements and modifications that are installed and planned. Tables II and attachment provide task descriptions, status, and the estimated completion III of the dates. Our DCRDR Summary Report, which we plan to submit to you in December 1986, will present a more detailed implementation schedule.

This document has been prepared following Corporate exarch procedures which incorporate a reasonable set of controls to insure it's accuracy and completeness prior to signature by the undersigned.

• • It is not possible to assess and pinpoint completion dates at this time, but they will be included in the Summary Report.

The percentages shown are an estimate, not an exact mathematical accounting. Further, items shown as 100% complete reflect the status of both control rooms as of October 1985 (the end of the Unit 1 refueling outage). Modifications completed after the October 1985 cut-off date will be reviewed, assessed, and reported later in an orderly manner. For example, the SPDS will be reviewed, but not fully assessed or corrective action planned in time for the December 31, 1986 Program Summary Report. A preliminary assessment of the SPDS problems found by the review will be included in that report.
