SUBJECT:

ELECTRIC POWER RESEARCH INSTITUTE REPORT, RISK-INFORMED EVALUATION OF PROTECTIVE ACTION STRATEGIES FOR NUCLEAR PLANT OFF-SITE EMERGENCY PLANNING.

Dear Mr. Nelson:

We are in receipt of your October, 31, 2007, letter transmitting the subject report. My staff is currently reviewing the document. As you know we are also working on a study reviewing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) protective action recommendation guidance and intend to publish a NUREG/CR documenting our study in the near future.

In your letter, you requested a meeting with NRC staff to discuss the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) report. I understand that such a meeting has been set for January 15, 2008, in the Nuclear Energy Institute offices. My staff will be prepared at that time to discuss the EPRI report, as well as the results of the NRC study.
