WASHINGTON PUBLIC POWER SUPPLY SYS'IIÃEIVED P.O. Box 968 ~ 3000 George Washington Way ~ Richland, Washin ton 99352 REGION V 87081i0350 870715 PDR ADQCK 05000397 PDR July 15, 1987 Mr. Dennis F. Kirsch, Director Division of Reactor Safety & Projects U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region V 1450 Maria Lane, Suite 210 Walnut Creek, CA 94596
Dear Mr. Kirsch:
Subject:
INVESTIGATION OF ALLEGATIONS
Reference:
Letter, DF Kirsch to DW Mazur, same subject, dated June 25, 1987 This letter is to confirm my conversation with Mr. Robert Pate of your office on July 9, 1987 wherein I requested an extension to the July 15, 1987 deadline imposed by the above referenced letter.
Your letter was not received by the Washington Public Power Supply System until July 7, 1987 which eliminated twelve days of the allotted time.
The complexities that this type of investigation may produce would in themselves make it necessary for us to request more than the allotted 20 days to complete the investigation.
To date, we have assigned a two-man investigative team to look into the subject allegations. We are unable at this time to provide a schedule for completion, not knowing the impact of the allegations. Therefore, we will provide your office with periodic updates concerning the investigation as we have information to report.
Upon completion of the investigation, the Washington Public Power Supply System will provide a final report of our conclusions and actions taken or to be taken.
Very truly your ,
G. C. Sorensen, Manager Regulatory Programs
