Subject:
Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 1 Docket No. 50-313 License No. DPR-51 Containment Purging During Operation (File: 1510)
Gentlemen:
Your letter of November 29, 1978, related concerns relative to potential failures of purge penetration valves which could lead to a degradation in containment integrity, and requested either:
(1) A proposed Technical Specification which requires that there be no purging during operation, or (2) A schedule for proposing a Technical Specification which will limit purging to 90 hours0.00104 days
0.025 hours
1.488095e-4 weeks
3.4245e-5 months
per year and justification by test or by test and analysis, or (3) A schedule for justification of unlimited purging.
We are presently attempting to obtain test data on our purge valves from our vendor. Ilowever, due to the large number of similar requests, his schedule for submitting this information to us has not been determined.
When we receive the necessary information, we will propose a Technical Specification unich wil) limit purging during operation to 90 hours0.00104 days
0.025 hours
1.488095e-4 weeks
3.4245e-5 months
per year and submit our justification for y aur approval. We expect to complete this item before April 1,1979. Prior to our submittal and during your review, Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 1 (ANO-1) will limit purging during operation to 90 hours0.00104 days
0.025 hours
1.488095e-4 weeks
3.4245e-5 months
per year.
Your letter also requested that we review our safety actuation signal circuits which have a manual override feature to ensure that over-riding of one safety actuation signal does not cause the bypass of

Very truly yours,
