SUBJECT:

NOMINATION OF RAJU B. PATEL AS AN ALTERNATE TO COMMITTEE ON AUTHORIZED INSPECTION AGENCY ACCREDITATION

Dear Mr. Whittle:

I would like to nominate Mr. Raju B. Patel as the authorized Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) alternate representative on the Committee on Authorized Inspection Agency Accreditation (CAA), which reports to the Board of Conformity Assessment. Mr. Patel is currently a Reactor Operations Engineer in the Office of New Reactors, Division of Construction Inspection and Operational Programs, Quality Assurance Vendor Inspection Branch (QVIB).

Mr. Patels is primarily responsible for quality assurance reviews and inspection of nuclear vendors and applicants for new reactor licenses and design certifications. Mr. Patel is key technical representative in the 10 CFR 50.55a, Codes and Standard, rulemaking process.

Furthermore, Mr. Patel serves as an NRC representative on the ASME Section III Working Group on Quality Assurance, Certification and Stamping and Working Group on General Requirements Consolidation (BPV III). Mr. Patel is replacing Ms. Samantha Crane, who has taken on other duties within the NRC.

In accordance with the Office of Management and Budget Circular No. A-119, "Federal Participation in the Development and Use of Voluntary Consensus Standards and in Conformity Assessment Activities," January 26, 2016, the participation on a committee of an NRC-authorized representative does not connote agency agreement with, or endorsement of, decisions reached by the committee, or of standards approved and published as a result of the committees efforts. Agency representatives participating on consensus standards developing groups will, to the extent possible, ascertain the views of the agency on matters of interest and will express views that are consistent with established agency views.

Correspondence should be addressed to:

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN.: Mr. Raju B. Patel M/S: OWFN-04A17M Washington, D.C. 20555 Telephone: 301-415-3511 Fax: 301-415-6323 E-mail: Raju.Patel@NRC.GOV

E. Whittle Thank you very much for providing NRC with the opportunity to participate in the work of your committee.

Sincerely, Brian Thomas /RA/
