REQUEST FOR INDUSTRY REPRESENTATIVE COMMENTS ON DRAFTENHANCED SECURITY MEASURES FOR TRANSPORT OF RADIOACTIVEMATERIAL OF CONCERN

Dear Mr. Killar,

Because the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) is an institution active in monitoring the oversight byfederal officials to protect the interests of its members, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) seeks your assistance in providing industry representative stakeholdercomments from the regulated community.The NRC staff has developed draft additional security measures (ASMs) to enhance thesecurity during transport of certain radioactive materials for licensees that transport, ship or receive quantities equal to or greater than the limits identified in Enclosure 1. The NRC wouldlike the regulated community's comments on the draft ASMs. Workshops to discuss the draft ASMs are scheduled for the locations and dates provided below. However, the draft ASMs are designated as Safeguards Information under Section 147 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, and any individual who receives Safeguards Information must protect it from disclosure to unauthorized individuals. If you plan to receive and comment on the draft ASMs, please notify us within 5 days from thedate of this letter in writing, with the names of no more than three individuals who have been authorized to view, discuss and receive Safeguards Information. Please respond with therequested information to:Director, Division of Nuclear SecurityOffice of Nuclear Security and Incident Response Mail Stop T-4D8 Attention: Rocky Foster Washington, D.C. 20555 You may also transmit your response by fax to 301-415-6661, ATTN: Rocky Foster, or by e-mail to transport security@nrc.gov

In the meantime, closed workshops (i.e., not open to the general public) are scheduled to discuss your comments and answer your questions.
