In October 2006, Southern Nuclear abandoned the monitor well GWB-16 at Plant Vogtle initiated sampling of the new well, GWB-16!MW-16R, during our groundwater monitoring event that was conducted in December 2006.Depth to water measurements and groundwater elevations taken for this well on December 4,2006 are presented in Table 1.Table1-Groundwater Elevation and Monitoring Well Construction Details Total Well Riser Screened Groundwater Depth Height Interval (feet, Elevation (feet, topvc)(feet)msl)(feet, msl)80.80 3.00 156.79-166.79160.14 Field measurements taken from this well on December 5, 2006 are presented in Table 2.Table2-Groundwater Sampling Field Measurements pH Conductivity Turbidity Gallons Odor Color (umhos!sec)(NTU)Puraed 7.36 80 5.4 1 None None EV-07-0575 Page 2 Georgia Environmental Protection Division Mr.Steve McManus In accordance with the approved Groundwater Monitoring Plan, the groundwater sample from this well was analyzed for the Chapter 391-3-4 Appendix I list of parameters, which consist of total metals and volatile organic compounds.
Analysis was also conducted for the Chapter 391-3-4 Appendix II parameter mercury.There were no detections of any parameters above the quantification limit in the replacement well during this monitoring period.The complete laboratory analytical reports, which include field and laboratory OA/OC results and chain of custody forms, are provided as part of the routine groundwater monitoring report submitted to Mr.Jeff Cown of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.If you have any questions or comments regarding the well abandonment/replacement activities, please contact Mickey Perry at (205)992-6994.,//'Manager-Environmental Affairs JMG/MEP:ahl Mr.Mickey Perry (SNC)Mr.Kurt Batsel (Dextra)
