Whathappenstothehighlyradioactivespentfuelrods?*ExpectationwhenDavisBessewasbuilt-afederalrepositorywouldbeconstructedforstoringthehighlevelradioactivecomponentsasneededforthousandsofyears.*YuccaMountain-stilldoesnothaveanoperatinglicenseandnofundingwasproposedinthefederal2011budget.*For33years,allhighlevelradioactivecomponentsincludingfuelassemblieshavebeenstoredonsiteatDavisBesse.Initiallyinacoolingpondandtheninabovegroundcontainers.Nonuclearplantlicenseextensionsshouldbegranteduntilalong termstoragefacilityisoperating.
