ANDREWS, Texas - The most advanced, secure facility for the disposal of Class A, B and C low-level radioactive waste in the United States is open and ready to do business.

The Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Facility in Andrews County announced its opening November 10, 2011, with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by hundreds of people, including Texas and U.S.

lawmakers, community leaders, state regulators, clients, employees and other elected officials.

"For the first time in decades, generators have the opportunity to send waste to a site specifically designed to permanently dispose of waste in a facility that will protect human health and the environment," said William Lindquist, Chief Executive Officer for Waste Control Specialists (WCS), the

facility operator.

We are ready to begin accepting waste on behalf of the Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Commission and the state of Texas. We look forward to that day in the very near future when the first shipment of waste rolls through our gates," Mr. Lindquist said, adding disposal operations are expected to begin January 3, 2012. The Texas Compact Facility is owned by the state of Texas, operated by WCS and hosted and supported by Andrews.

The facility is the only commercial site in the United States specifically engineered, constructed and licensed to dispose of Class A, B and C low-level radioactive waste and it is the only new disposal option Historic Texas Compact Disposal Facility Ready for Business Media Coverage of the Grand Opening KMID in Odessa Covers the Grand Opening Event on November 10th

The site is authorized to accept waste from generators in Texas and Vermont, which make up the Texas Compact, as well as from generators in 36 other states that currently lack a viable disposal option.

We believe the future is very bright. We have created a state-of-the-art facility that provides a safe, permanent solution to an environmental challenge that has gone unanswered for too long in this county," Mr.

Lindquist said.
