consumers Power company General Offices: 1945 West Parnall Road, *Jackson, Ml 49201 * *1517) 766-0550 July 26, 1985 Director, Nuclear Reactor Regulation US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255 -LICENSE DPR-20 -PALISADES PLANT -COMPLIANCE WITH 10CFR50.48 AND APPENDIX R -FIRE DOOR EVALUATION Attachment 5 to Consumers Power Company's June 19, 1985 submittal implies, in paragraphs a, b, c and d, that. bullet proof doors at the south wall and northwest corner of the Control Room, at the northwest corner of the Cable Spreading Room, and at the east wall of the Cable Penetration Room, are the same as those doors tested at Underwriters Laboratories by Wisconsin Publicr Service Corporation.
During a telephone conversation on June 18, 1985 between members of our we noted that while the subject doors are similar to those tested by Wisconsin Electric, the doors at Palisades have different type handles and have an additional emergency release handle which Wisconsin Electric's test door did not have. The bulletproof doors at Palisades will be evaluated by a nationally recognized fire protection engineering groµp. Once this evaluation is completed, we will submit documentation for use by the NRC to evaluate our determination that these bulletproof doors are equivalent to 3-hour rated doors.
