REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (RAI)VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATIONLICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATIONJANUARY 30, 2007The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of EntergyNuclear Operations, Inc., held a telephone conference call on January 30, 2007, to discuss and clarify the following request for additional information (RAI) concerning the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station (Vermont Yankee), license renewal application. RAI 3.6.2.2-N-08-2 Electrical components for the Vernon Hydroelectric Station (VHS) include 2 black-start turbinegenerators, cables and buses for power transmission, instrumentation and control components and their associated cables and connections. The audit team found that there is an aging management program (AMP) for underground cables from VHS tie breaker routed to Vermont Yankee. However, there appears to be no AMPs for electrical components from the tie breaker to VHS generators. Please describe how aging effects on the rest of the electrical components will be managed during the period of extended operation.Discussion: The applicant wanted to discuss its proposed commitment to address the staff'sVHS concerns prior to a formal submittal of the commitment. The applicant proposed threeoptions within the commitment for aging management of the electrical component from the Vernon tie breaker to the VHS generators. The staff listed to the applicant's proposed commitment but deferred comment until after having an internal discussion.Based on the discussion with the applicant, the staff indicated that this question requires furtherclarification. This question will be deferred for clarification in a future conference call or a meeting.
