PARTICIPATION IN THE NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION'S 2003REGULATORY INFORMATION CONFERENCE
Dear Mr. Floyd:
Steve, on behalf of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I would like to personally thankyou for participating as a panel member in our 2003 Regulatory Information Conference (RIC) session on the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP). As you know, the ROP has been successful in contributing to one of our commons goals: the assurance of public health and safety and protection of the environment. However, there are many challenges that still face us, some of which you described in your presentation. I am confident though that these and others will be resolved in a manner that will improve our regulatory oversight of commercial power reactors. We have updated the RIC website to include the slides and speeches/presentations fromRIC 2003. We will also be adding the IOU's and "take-away" items and their responses to the web soon. Later this year we will also be posting an on-line stakeholder suggestion form for planning RIC 2004.Please feel free to contact Mr. Stuart Richards, my new Chief for our Inspe ction ProgramBranch at 301-415-1257, should you or your staff have any future comments on the ROP. I look forward to continuing our dialog and to seeing you and your colleagues at the 2004 RIC.Sincerely,/RA/ Cynthia A.Carpenter forBruce A.
